MOST IT
PROFESSIONALS
WOULD
THEN FIND
THEMSELVES
WISHING THAT
THEY HAD
SPENT MORE
TIME THINKING
ABOUT WHAT
THEIR MOST
IMPORTANT
AND ESSENTIAL
DATA WAS AND
MANAGING IT
DIFFERENTLY.
The major cyberthreats to the North
American region are numerous and the
list seems to be growing exponentially.
Certainly, the COVID-19 pandemic and the
work from home (WFH) economy has only
served to exacerbate existing tensions.
However, the good news is that in some
areas, organizations seem to really be
starting to get on top of the situation, as a
recent report from Databarracks implies.
The bad news is that when it comes to the
unique challenges of unstructured data
– whether on-premises or in the cloud –
Business Continuity planning and protection
is still lagging dangerously far behind.
And unfortunately, it appears that hackers
now view NAS (network-attached storage) as
the new ‘honey pot’.
No IT professional wishes to think about the
unthinkable – a situation where your NAS or
object storage has been locked by hackers,
on your watch!
What now? You have backups of course,
but where do you restore those backups to
if your entire system is down and you can’t
get identical hardware onsite in short order?
And, how long will it take to restore that
increasing amount of unstructured data
and get access to just the essential files
needed to keep your business running (and
that is assuming your unstructured data
was in fact fully backed up)?
Most IT professionals would then find
themselves wishing that they had spent
more time thinking about what their most
important and essential data was and
managing it differently.
And this remains a huge problem –
you could perhaps even call it a ‘threat’
in North America and around the world
right now. •
