Lenovo doubles down on global investment to support technology for a smarter future

Lenovo philanthropy is investing in upskilling as part of its goal to deliver transformational impact to one million people by 2025 .
In FY 2021 – 22 , Lenovo philanthropy provided US $ 21 million to communities around the world as part of its broader mission to empower under-resourced populations with access to technology and STEM education .
A recent World Economic Forum Report indicates that 97 million new job roles may emerge that are adapted to division of labor between humans , machines and algorithms making skills in automation , Artificial Intelligence , web development and data analytics increasingly in high demand .

The Lenovo Foundation has announced the opening of its next

TransforME skilling grant round , as well as the winners of its inaugural grant round .
Lenovo has committed more than US $ 2 million to organizations around the world focused on equipping today ’ s workforce with the skills needed to transform their careers , lives and communities .
These key skills are needed for emerging technologies to be adopted by companies across industries but are currently in short supply in labor markets .
Calvin J . Crosslin , President of the Lenovo Foundation and Chief Diversity Officer , Lenovo , said : “ We knew we wanted to provide support for skilling in communities , but it was critically important to us that we work with organizations working to increase representation of women and diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds in technology .”

US business professionals want to get ‘ meta ’ about meetings

A has uncovered just how ready business professionals are to collaborate in the virtual world .

Most ( 96 %) of the US business professionals surveyed recognize the value of virtual versus face-to-face meetings . Yet , it is clear that workers want richer virtual experiences with more than three-quarters ( 79 %) saying they would conduct work meetings and tasks in the metaverse instead of via current video conferencing tools .
Over two-thirds ( 68 %) of US survey respondents can see the metaverse becoming part of existing work practices and more than half ( 58 %) think their business will move away from static collaboration environments to more immersive / Virtual Reality-based platforms in the next three years . Additionally , 88 % of US workers would feel comfortable conducting formal , HR-type meetings in a virtual space .
When asked how they would want to be represented in the metaverse , 71 % of US respondents would choose an avatar that doesn ’ t reflect their real-world self . Participants aged 25 to 34 were least likely to authentically represent themselves in digital form , while women were slightly more likely than men ( 34 % vs . 22 %) to use an avatar that closely resembled their true selves . More than one in five Americans would represent themselves as a pop culture figure or an animal in work meetings , instead of an avatar based on their realworld self .
