94 % of IT decision makers today agree that their organizations would benefit from having a single platform to manage applications and data across clouds .
The pandemic has certainly accelerated the Digital Transformation journey for many companies . This has brought on more flexibility , both for employees and customers , but it has also resulted in some challenges . In particular , effectively managing enterprise data and application sprawl in a hybrid , multi-cloud world has become critical to achieving Digital Transformation objectives .
According to the recently released Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Index ( ECI ) report , enterprises are shifting away from a ‘ one cloud fits all ’ approach and toward the realization that organizations need to leverage different clouds , on-prem and edge resources to meet business needs .
Today , the majority of IT teams deploy more than one IT infrastructure and that number is supposed to increase in the future .
However , the reality of multicloud is complex . For example , 86 % of ECI respondents agree that moving applications among environments can be complex and costly , even though nearly all have moved one or more applications to a different IT infrastructure in the past year . Managing data across clouds is also becoming increasingly complex – although 94 % agree that having complete visibility into where their data resides is important , only 40 % of organizations do .
From runaway costs , to lack of visibility into a company ’ s data , to difficulty in making different IT environments interoperable means that organizations are looking for a better way forward . For this reason , 94 % of IT decision makers today agree that their organizations would benefit from having a single platform to manage applications and data across clouds .
This would help simplify operations , enable the flexibility to leverage the right IT infrastructure for each application and provide more visibility into where an organization ’ s data resides .
Many see a hybrid multicloud model , which constitutes a private cloud on-premises or at the edge plus multiple public cloud platforms , as the solution . Hybrid multicloud adoption is expected to more than triple in the coming three years , according to the ECI , while the growth of most other models will remain flat or decline .
The reality is that for many organizations to be successful in their Digital Transformation journey , they need to find a way to more efficiently manage having applications across public cloud , on-prem and at the edge .
This will provide the flexibility and control needed to best manage an organization ’ s apps and data .
