“ Our close collaboration with Wind River allows us to enhance our industry-leading IVI development work and further expand into multiple safety-critical domains with Wind River leading runtime environments , including VxWorks and Helix Platform .”
The Samsung collaboration was confirmed within days of Wind River outlining a collaboration with Juniper Networks to cut TCO for vRAN and ORAN deployments with a combined solution – as communications service providers ( CSPs ) look to implement virtualized and Open RAN in their networks .
In a co-authored blog post , Randy Cox , Vice President , Product Management , Intelligent Cloud , Wind River and Mathias Kokot , Vice President , PLM Software , Juniper , said the combined solution of the Juniper Cloud-Native Router plus Wind River Studio provided multiple opportunities for cost savings at the edge with the ability to consolidate what would otherwise be multiple pieces of hardware down to one or two servers at a far edge site .
This , they said , reduces not only the initial purchase of hardware but also saves on ongoing power , cooling and space costs . These CapEx savings , combined with the operational benefits of zerotouch automation , helps service providers build an Open RAN solution to achieve lower TCO versus traditional RAN and also allows them to start reaping the benefits of new 5G use cases enabled by the flexibility of an Open RAN network .
