GET TO KNOW technology , while quite old by IT standards , will have a moment in the industry , but it will not be the final solution . It is a nice interim solution to cool the hottest chips – but it does not address the longer-term goals of Net Zero , water savings and OPEX reduction .
How do you deal with stress and unwind outside the office ?
I live in Colorado because I love the mountains and the weather . During the pandemic , I learned that if I try to take a walk every day just to let my brain slow down and reset , I am much more effective during the hours and hours of virtual calls . costs by reducing the amount of electricity and water they consume in the data center .
Meet or exceed their Net Zero carbon footprint goals by reducing and / or eliminating their energy footprint . Increase the density of their current footprint so they can avoid constructing additional data centers . All these factors are driving investment into new solutions that can address these issues .
What are the region-specific challenges when implementing new technologies in North America ?
I also enjoy watching sports with my family . We try to attend Colorado Rockies baseball games and Colorado Avalanche hockey games each season . I also enjoying reading when I have free time .
If you could go back and change one career decision what would it be ?
Early in my career , I found myself in an environment led by a person who had big dreams that started to exceed the boundaries of reality . I wanted desperately to fulfil those aspirational goals , but they were simply not possible . If I could go back and coach myself in that place and time , I would have told myself it was time for me to leave . When your vision stops aligning with the vision of the leader of the organization , it is best to step aside as soon as possible .
What do you currently identify as the major areas of investment in your industry ?
Most enterprise and cloud service provider customers are looking to solve three problems . Reduce OPEX
Many of the challenges in North America are ones we see elsewhere in the world . Power constraints , sustainability concerns and supply chain issues are universal challenges the global data center market is facing right now .
One thing unique to North America right now is the overwhelming demand for data center space leading to a vacancy of only 2.88 %. This is a big challenge for enterprise organizations looking for data center space for the next few years . It opens the opportunity to explore alternative brownfield sites , but that requires the right kind of equipment to do so .
What changes to your job role have you seen in the last year and how do you see these developing in the next 12 months ?
I was pleased to join Iceotope as Chief Commercial Officer in January . We are adding Sales , Marketing and Business Development headcount as we speak so hopefully my role in the next 12 months will include building out our organization and celebrating our massive success in transforming how we cool the x86 data center ecosystem .
What advice would you offer somebody aspiring to obtain a C-level position in your industry ?
Keep learning ! Having academic degrees matters because they are a proxy for having been exposed to multiple subjects and current research .
But ultimately it doesn ’ t matter what degree you have . What matters when you are interviewing for a senior executive role is that you are well informed of the current and future trends in the industry and understand how to represent your product or company in a way that matters to your audience . p
