EDITOR’ S NOTE
Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Intelligent CIO North America.
This month’ s cover story, which can be found on page 14, features Jignesh Patel, Professor, Computer Science Department, Carnegie Mellon University, who discusses the collaboration between Informatica and CMU to advance GenAI technologies for data management.
The partnership combines Informatica’ s AI-driven innovations with CMU’ s cutting-edge research to accelerate breakthroughs in GenAI-powered data management. Key areas of focus include AI-driven automation, metadata-driven agentic AI, and optimized AI training for enterprise environments. The collaboration aims to enhance Informatica’ s Intelligent Data Management Cloud( IDMC) platform and contribute key innovations to the broader AI research community.
Through this initiative, both organizations will work on rethinking data management systems and developing infrastructure that supports low-latency, cost-effective operations at scale. The partnership also offers hands-on learning opportunities for CMU students and faculty, bridging the gap between theoretical research and real-world deployments. Ultimately, the collaboration seeks to push the boundaries of what’ s possible with GenAI in data management and deliver transformative benefits to both customers and the wider industry.
Elsewhere, we investigate how CIOs are under increasing pressure to balance AI-driven innovation with the need for security, resilience and costefficiency. Scott Wheeler, Cloud Practice Lead at Asperitas, recommends focusing on business objectives rather than chasing technology trends, while prioritising resilience and platform-based investments to reduce risks. Magnus Tagtstrom, Corporate VP of AI Transformations at Iterate. ai, advocates for investing in smaller, specialised AI models that offer costeffective performance without compromising security or agility. Henric Andersson, CIO at Intellistack, suggests that AI should enhance existing systems rather than compensate for weaknesses, and stresses the importance of establishing clear governance and sandbox environments for experimentation.
