Editor’ s Note

Welcome to the latest edition of Intelligent CIO North America.

This month we feature the University of Missouri partnering with Radix to transform its Combined Cooling Heating and Power operations.
By leveraging smart data insights and a predictive analytics system, the university has transitioned from a reactive to a proactive strategy, optimising energy usage and reducing operational costs while supporting long-term sustainability goals.
The partnership has delivered significant operational and business value, with Michael O’ Connor, Director of Energy Management, saying on p14 that the new system has enabled faster and more informed responses to changing conditions.
The University’ s target is to achieve annual cost reductions of at least 2 – 3 %, equivalent to approximately US $ 500,000, although actual savings could be even higher as the system continues to mature.

On p24, Riverbed Technology CIO Fernando Castanheira explains how the modern CIO role is evolving from operational guardian to strategic growth architect.
No longer the chief‘ keeper of the lights on’. Instead, he says, the role has shifted from being the head of infrastructure to becoming one of the main architects of growth.
A new‘ parallel interface’ developed at Stanford enables rapid data extraction from quantum computers and opens a path toward scalable, networked quantum supercomputers.
Read on p35 how a team led by Stanford physicists worked on an optical platform allowing quantum information to be read out from many qubits simultaneously.
The advance dramatically speeds up the extraction of quantum data and could ultimately enable networks of quantum computers to operate together as a single, powerful system.
On p29 we report on a‘ significant boost’ to meeting growing demand for highcapacity 100G enterprise connectivity with a new customer-edge deployment of the HUBER + SUHNER CUBOsystem 400G muxponder by TOWARDEX.
That’ s just a sample of what’ s inside – enjoy the read.
Have an innovative month.
