US vs Asia – two paths to robotics leadership
The global robotics surge is being shaped by two distinct but complementary approaches:
United States:
• Focus on software-driven automation
• AI layered onto existing industrial workflows
• Strong enterprise and manufacturing applications
• Examples: Mind Robotics, Bedrock Robotics, Rhoda AI
Asia( China and Hong Kong):
• Hardware-first innovation
• Heavy investment in humanoid robotics
• Emphasis on embodied intelligence
• Examples: AI2 Robotics, PaXini Tech, Robotera
The convergence of these strategies is expected to define the next phase of robotics, combining advanced AI software with increasingly capable physical machines.
But without a means of execution, its potential remains constrained.
Robotics provides that missing link. The current wave of investment suggests that industry leaders recognise this. The race is no longer just to build smarter models – it is to deploy them at scale in the physical world.
“ The transition from digital intelligence to physical deployment is now happening at pace rather than through isolated breakthroughs,” said Goldberg.
In other words, the age of thinking machines is giving way to the age of acting machines. And that may prove to be the most consequential shift of all. •
