BROADCOM AND SAMSUNG TARGET THE FUTURE OF HOME INTERNET WITH INTEGRATED 5G AND WI-FI 8 PLATFORM

Broadcom and Samsung Electronics are betting that the next phase of broadband growth will come from fixed wireless access powered by advanced 5Gand Wi-Fi 8 technologies, as operators search for more cost-effective ways to deliver fibre-like Internet experiences. he battle to define the future

T of broadband connectivity is entering a new phase, driven by surging demand for faster home Internet, increasing pressure on operators to lower infrastructure costs and the emergence of next-generation wireless technologies capable of delivering fibre-like performance without the need for extensive cable deployments.

Against this backdrop, Broadcom and Samsung Electronics have unveiled what they describe as the world’ s first integrated 5G and Wi-Fi 8 fixed wireless access( FWA) platform, combining Samsung’ s B1320 5G modem with Broadcom’ s BCM6776 Wi-Fi 8 System-on-Chip( SoC).
The announcement highlights how major semiconductor and telecommunications vendors are increasingly positioning fixed wireless access as a mainstream broadband alternative rather than a niche connectivity option.
The integrated platform combines 3GPP Release 17 capabilities with the emerging Wi-Fi 8 standard, also known as IEEE 802.11bn, aiming to improve reliability, throughput and network consistency for residential broadband environments.
For telecoms operators, the timing is significant. Demand for high-speed home connectivity continues to rise as consumers adopt bandwidthintensive applications such as cloud gaming, AIpowered services, ultra-high-definition streaming and connected smart home systems.
At the same time, operators face mounting costs associated with fibre rollouts, especially in suburban and rural regions where infrastructure deployment can be economically challenging.
Broadcom and Samsung believe fixed wireless access can help bridge that gap.
“ We are highlighting that the future of home Internet can be both accessible and affordable,” said Joonsuk Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of CP Development, Samsung Electronics.“ This platform is designed to deliver reliable performance across a wide range of
