IonQ completes SkyWater acquisition to create vertically integrated quantum platform
IonQ has completed its acquisition of SkyWater Technology, creating what the company describes as the only vertically integrated full-stack quantum platform business while accelerating its roadmap towards fault-tolerant quantum computing.
The deal brings together IonQ’ s quantum computing expertise with SkyWater’ s US-based semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, strengthening domestic design, fabrication, advanced packaging and production.
IonQ said the combination will support development of nextgeneration quantum computing, networking, security and sensing technologies while providing a secure end-to-end supply chain.
Niccolo de Masi, Chairman and CEO, IonQ, said the acquisition reinforced the company’ s ambition to become a technology leader, merchant supplier and ecosystem enabler for the global quantum industry. He said expanded manufacturing capabilities would help accelerate commercialisation and support wider adoption of quantum platforms.
De Masi added that integrating secure chip design, fabrication and packaging would create a fully scalable domestic manufacturing approach for quantum systems serving land, sea, air and space applications.
SkyWater will continue operating as a wholly owned subsidiary under its existing name, with CEO Thomas Sonderman leading the business and reporting to de Masi.
Sonderman said joining IonQ marked a significant milestone for SkyWater, enabling faster development of next-generation quantum chips while maintaining support for existing semiconductor foundry customers across public and private sectors.
The company will continue delivering advanced technology, wafer manufacturing, advanced packaging, atomic clocks and quantum interconnect services while expanding its portfolio of quantum networking and sensing solutions.
IonQ believes the integration positions both companies for faster innovation and sustainable growth ahead.

Global Credit Union has expanded access to banking technology in one of North America’ s most challenging environments by deploying NCR Atleos automated teller machines at its new branch in Utqiagvik, Alaska.
The new branch, located in the northernmost city in the US, extends financial services across Alaska’ s North Slope, where remote geography, extreme weather and limited transport infrastructure create significant operational challenges for banking providers. The deployment demonstrates how selfservice banking technology continues to play a critical role in delivering financial services to isolated communities.
The NCR Atleos ATMs provide customers with secure access to cash withdrawals, deposits and other self-service transactions, complementing in-branch support and digital banking services. The company said its experience deploying and maintaining ATM networks in remote locations helped make the project possible despite the region’ s demanding conditions.
