Google, TVA and Kairos move forward with nuclear power deal for data centers in Tennessee and Alabama

Google has signed a power purchase agreement with the

Tennessee Valley Authority( TVA) and Kairos Power to secure 50 megawatts of electricity from the Hermes 2 advanced nuclear project.
The clean energy will support Google’ s data centers in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and Jackson County, Alabama, while adding carbon-free power to TVA’ s regional grid.
Hermes 2 is being developed at the East Tennessee Technology Park in Oak Ridge. Initially designed as a 28 MW demonstration plant, the project has been reconfigured to deliver 50 MW through a single reactor using fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature technology. Full operations are expected by 2030.
The deal marks the first time a U. S. utility has committed to purchasing power from a Generation IV small modular reactor.
It underscores the role advanced nuclear could play in meeting corporate demand for sustainable energy. TVA will provide the power to its customers, while Google will apply the clean energy attributes to advance its sustainability goals.
This agreement builds on a 2024 collaboration between Google and Kairos Power to explore up to 500 MW of small modular reactor capacity by 2035. By scaling Hermes 2 and expanding future deployments, the companies aim to make advanced nuclear a commercially competitive option in the clean energy mix.

Oracle to make Google Gemini AI models available through OCI

Oracle and Google Cloud have expanded their partnership to provide customers with access to Google’ s Gemini models, beginning with Gemini 2.5, through the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure( OCI) Generative AI service.

The integration allows Oracle customers to apply Gemini for use cases such as multimodal understanding, coding and software development, workflow automation, research and knowledge retrieval.
Oracle said it plans to extend access to the full Gemini portfolio via new integrations with Google’ s Vertex AI. This will include models for video, image, speech and music generation, as well as industryspecific options such as MedLM for healthcare.
In the longer term, Oracle expects to integrate Gemini into Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications, offering customers additional options to enhance workflows in finance, HR, supply chain, sales, service and marketing. Customers will be able to use their existing Oracle Universal Credits for Gemini model access.
“ Today, leading enterprises are using Gemini to power AI agents across a range of use cases and industries,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud.
“ Now, Oracle customers can access our leading models from within their Oracle environments, making it even easier for them to begin deploying powerful AI agents that can support developers and streamline data integration tasks.”
The partnership underlines the growing trend of cloud providers working together to expand enterprise access to advanced AI tools.
