Colt and Ciena set new benchmark with quantum-safe transatlantic data transmission

Colt and Ciena have completed one of the fastest quantum safe data transmissions ever demonstrated and the fastest across a transatlantic route.

The landmark trial successfully protected live data running across 6900km of Colt’ s subsea and terrestrial network between New York and London with Ciena’ s WaveLogic 6 Extreme( WL6e) encryption solution.
The trial proved that data can be securely transmitted at an 800Gb Ethernet( GbE) service rate – fast enough to move data centre scale volumes across the Atlantic in seconds – while remaining protected against growing quantum threats.
Businesses are moving now to protect their data from‘ harvest now, decrypt later’ attacks, in which bad actors intercept and store data in transit waiting for future Quantum Computing capabilities to break through traditional data encryption methods to access it. This could be possible as early as 2030.
The successful trial demonstrates that high-speed quantum-safe connectivity is ready to secure customer data reliably across continents – along one of the world’ s busiest data corridors.
Buddy Bayer, Chief Operating Officer, Colt, said:“ This trial marks a significant step forward in protecting the world’ s data as it moves across continents. It proves that quantum safe protection can be delivered at real world scale.
Dino DiPerna, Senior Vice President, Global Research and Development, Ciena, said:“ Post-quantum cryptography and proven high-performance optical encryption can play an important role in protecting high-speed services over real-world long-haul and submarine networks, helping secure critical inflight data across any distance.”

IQM Quantum Computers becomes first European quantum computing company listed on Nasdaq

IQM Quantum Computers, a global leader in full-stack superconducting quantum computers, has become a publicly traded company following the completion of its business combination with Real Asset Acquisition Corp.

The company’ s American Depositary Shares have begun trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol IQMX.
The listing marked a major milestone for IQM, establishing the company as the first European quantum computing company listed on a major US stock exchange. Following the transaction, IQM maintained a strong pro forma cash position of EUR 337 million.
IQM entered the public markets with strong commercial momentum and a rapidly expanding global footprint, having sold 23 quantum computers worldwide, more than any other quantum manufacturer. Central to that leadership is its Production Quantum model: full-stack, open-architecture systems that customers own, operate and build on.
“ Quantum computing is reaching an inflection point. Around the world, organizations are moving from exploration to implementation, investing in quantum infrastructure and building the capabilities that will define the next generation of computing,” said Jan Goetz, CEO and Co-Founder, IQM Quantum Computers.
“ We enter the public markets from a position of strength, with leading technology, a growing global customer base and a clear strategy for scaling commercial adoption of quantum computing. We are excited to begin this next chapter as a public company.”
The company is also strengthening its US presence through its Quantum Technology Center in Maryland and a landmark installation at the Department of Energy’ s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, supporting long-term US expansion.•
