BlackSky secures US R & D contracts to advance Gen-3 AI for real-time tactical ISR

BlackSky has won a series of US research and development contracts to advance mission-critical artificial intelligence capabilities for its Gen-3 space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform, strengthening real-time tactical decision-making for defence customers.

The company said the awards will support enhanced automated target recognition and the integration of battle damage detection analytics into its commercial Gen-3 architecture. These capabilities are designed to improve the speed and accuracy of intelligence assessments during live operations by delivering AIdriven insights directly within classified mission environments.
BlackSky CEO Brian O’ Toole said continued US investment demonstrated confidence in BlackSky’ s technical roadmap and its ability to provide high-performance commercial space-based intelligence solutions. He added that deploying proprietary AI detection and identification algorithms closer to operational users compressed decision cycles while improving strategic and tactical awareness.
Under one contract BlackSky will expand proven AI-enabled object detection and identification algorithms to strengthen automated target recognition capabilities across classified customer workflows. Another contract supports continued development of AI-enabled battle damage detection analytics that help decision makers rapidly evaluate physical and functional effects on military targets.
The Gen-3 constellation delivers 35-centimetre imagery with AI-driven analytics, providing sharper visual clarity, reducing classification ambiguity and lowering analysts’ cognitive workload. According to the company the satellites consistently capture detailed views of vehicles, maritime vessels, aircraft, infrastructure and individual people, supporting faster operational assessments across dynamic environments while expanding mission effectiveness for defence and national security organisations worldwide as future Gen-3 satellites enter service over the coming deployment phases with scalable AI capabilities embedded.

Peraton launches enterprise agentic AI platform for mission-critical government operations

Peraton has launched Peraton [ x ], a new enterprise agentic AI platform designed to enhance mission-critical government operations by enabling rapid deployment, real-time decision-making and enterprise-wide operational optimisation.

The company said the platform represents a significant step beyond conventional AI tools, positioning artificial intelligence as a core operational capability rather than an application embedded within existing systems. Peraton [ x ] can be deployed within hours and programmed using plain English, removing the need for specialist AI expertise.
“ Our AI development team has delivered something truly extraordinary. Peraton [ x ] is a first-of-its-kind agentic AI platform that sets a new standard in performance excellence,” said Peraton Chairman and CEO Steve Schorer.
Developed by Peraton Labs, the platform combines the company’ s research heritage with decades of experience supporting sensitive US government missions. It is designed to process large volumes of disparate data while providing predictive intelligence, continuous risk assessment, digital twin capabilities and operational automation.
“ Peraton [ x ] is revolutionizing the human-enterprise relationship and how organizations optimize themselves in real time,” said Todd Borkey, Peraton’ s Chief Technology Officer.“ It puts the power of the organization into the hands of the users of Peraton [ x ], giving them superhuman capabilities that they never had before.”
Peraton said the platform supports intelligence, programme management, compliance, financial forecasting and situational awareness. Built on Zero Trust architecture, it includes multi-factor authentication, end-to-end encryption and role-based access control. The company added that the platform is FedRAMP Moderate compliant and designed to integrate with existing enterprise IT environments without requiring extensive re-engineering.
